Anti-Russian actions of US ambassadors can be compared to racketeering - Peskov

US ambassadors go around companies and threaten them if someone shows interest in the Russian economy, Russian presidential spokesman said

MOSCOW, June 12. /TASS/. US ambassadors in various countries are now threatening companies that show interest in the Russian economy - these actions can be compared to racketeering, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with TASS.

"US ambassadors, not unlike racketeers, go around companies and threaten them with ‘final judgement’, if someone shows interest in the Russian economy. But this is all repairable and recoverable," the Kremlin spokesman said.

He confirmed that fewer representatives of Western countries will come to SPIEF in 2022 compared to previous years. However, according to Peskov, for Russia "this does not mean [that there will be] a reorientation to the East".

"The world is multifaceted, there are many other areas. Yes, the East has new centers of power: China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and many, many other countries. But there is also Latin America. There are a variety of companies [including those from] European countries," Peskov stated.

The 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held on June 15-18. The plenary session of the forum with the participation of Vladimir Putin will be held on June 17. According to Roscongress, representatives from more than 90 countries are expected to attend SPIEF this year. As of June 1, more than 2,700 business representatives have confirmed their participation in the forum.
