Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov sent personal messages to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Minister Melanie Joly with a plea to influence the US in light of Moscow’s information on provocations with the use of weapons of mass destruction being planned in Ukraine, the diplomat told a TASS correspondent.

"I sent personal messages to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and head of the Foreign Ministry Melanie Joly so they would personally influence the US administration and prevent this tragedy." The envoy issued a statement that this information was conveyed to the Canadian government, local media outlets and other diplomats in Ottawa.

Earlier, Chief of Russian Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Force Igor Kirillov said that the US was preparing provocations in order to accuse Russia of using chemical, biological or tactical nuclear weapons, According to him, Washington prepared three scenarios: the first scenario being "a staged false flag incident," the second - "a covert use of the weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in small volumes," and the third, the least probable one - " the open use of the WMD in combat.".
