UNITED NATIONS, March 23. /TASS/. The Ukrainian nationalists, as soon as they realized they will be brought to justice for their crimes committed over the eight years, have begun to use the population as a "human shield" and prevent the exodus of civilians, thus provoking a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said at a meeting of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.
"We declared from the outset that we will not be attacking civilian facilities," Nebenzya said. "As soon as they heard this, the Ukrainian nationalists and radicals, well aware that sooner or later they will be brought to justice for the crimes committed over the past eight years, began to use peaceful civilians as a human shield, to deploy heavy weapons in residential areas and to impede the evacuation of the population through humanitarian corridors."
Nebenzya stressed that such tactic was to blame for Ukraine’s current humanitarian crisis.
The Russian envoy stressed that the Western draft of the resolution on Ukraine proposed to the UN General Assembly created a false and biased picture of the current events, ignored the root causes of the crisis, and said nothing about the role of the Western countries in inciting it, "because they see that country and its people as a pawn in a geopolitical game against Russia."
"We will get back to the discussion of this issue when our special military operation is over," Nebenzya said.
