Russia, SCO to work on security of citizens from states neighboring on Afghanistan — Putin

The Russian special services are in contact with the corresponding agencies in Afghanistan, Russian President stressed

SOCHI, October 21. /TASS/. Russia and member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will see to it that citizens from states neighboring on Afghanistan feel secure, regardless of the situation in that country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday.

"On a bilateral basis, we will actively continue this work with China and will establish a dialogue between the corresponding structures and generally we will be earmarking required resources and creating all the conditions to ensure that citizens of all the countries feel secure, irrespective of what is happening in Afghanistan," the Russian leader said.

The Russian special services are in contact with the corresponding agencies in Afghanistan, Putin stressed.

"It is very important for us to organize this work within the SCO. Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are situated directly on the border with Afghanistan. Tajikistan is the place where our military base created on the basis of our 201st Soviet division is stationed," the Russian president said.
