Russian Emergencies minister arrives in flooded Orsk

Alexander Kurenkov will also visit the places of temporary accommodation of evacuated people and hold a meeting

ORSK, April 7. /TASS/. Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov has arrived in Orsk, Orenburg Region, which was hit by large-scale flooding.

According to a TASS correspondent, a special Emergencies Ministry plane landed at the Orsk airport. Kurenkov immediately went to the flooded areas of the city.

He will also visit the places of temporary accommodation of evacuated people and hold a meeting.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Kurenkov to fly to the Orenburg Region as a matter of urgency to organize all necessary work in the flooded area.

The partial collapse of a dam in Orsk, Orenburg Region, occurred in two places on the night of April 6. Another breach occurred in the evening of the same day. Rising water from the Ural River flooded 6,100 homes, according to the latest data. The bodies of two people were found in the flooded area, but they weren’t killed by the emergency, officials said. Authorities have declared a regional-level emergency situation and are urging residents to evacuate.
