Flight connection between Russia and Myanmar suspended

The flight connection was canceled due to low occupancy rates and an earthquake in Myanmar

NOVOSIBIRSK, April 23. /TASS/. The only flight from Russia to Myanmar (Yangon - Mandalay - Novosibirsk) has been suspended due to low occupancy rates and the earthquake that hit the country in the spring, Stanislav Taravkov, Commercial Director of Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport, said at the TASS press center.

"Today, Myanmar has cancelled all flights in the spring-summer schedule. Before that, when they were implementing the program, the occupancy rate was not very high unfortunately. We tried to support the carrier as much as possible with various advertising campaigns by tourist organizations," he said.

Taravkov added that the flight connection was canceled due to a strong earthquake in Myanmar. Meanwhile, the airport expects that the carrier will return to operating flights in the autumn-winter schedule.

On September 5, 2023, the Federal Air Transport Agency reported that Russia and Myanmar resumed air traffic after a 30-year hiatus. The flight was to be operated twice a week, but in fact the number of flights dropped to 1-2 per month. The average occupancy rate on the flight from Russia to Myanmar in December 2024 was 25%.
