Electricity generation in Russia falls by 3.3% to 219 bln kWh in first two months of 2025

Thermal power plants reduced electricity generation by 1.5% year-on-year, producing 154 bln kWh

MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. Electricity production in Russia totaled 219 bln kWh in January-February 2025, marking a 3.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Russian State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

Thermal power plants (TPPs) reduced electricity generation by 1.5% year-on-year, producing 154 bln kWh.

According to Rosstat, nuclear power plants (NPPs) saw a 4.8% decline in output, generating 34.6 bln kWh. Meanwhile, hydropower plants (HPPs) recorded a 9.7% drop, producing 29.7 bln kWh.

In February 2025, electricity generation decreased by 3% year-on-year to 106 bln kWh. NPPs produced 15.8 bln kWh, down 4.5% from February 2024. TPP output fell by 0.9% to 75.2 bln kWh, while HPP generation declined by 10.6% to 14.3 bln kWh.
