US exports of LNG in January hit December 2023 high, Turkey top purchaser

LNG exports in January were 1% higher than in December 2024, and 4.7% higher than in January 2024

MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. The United States exported 414.9 bln cubic feet (around 11.74 bln cubic meters) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in January, which is 4.7% higher than in the same period in 2024, and the highest level since December 2023, according to a monthly report by the US Department of Energy. That said, 86% of American LNG headed to Europe, while Turkey was the largest purchaser.

LNG exports in January were 1% higher than in December 2024, and 4.7% higher than in January 2024. All in all, 131 tankers supplied LNG.

Among the main supply destinations were Turkey (71.3 bln cubic feet, or 2 bln cubic meters), the UK (62.5 bln cubic feet, or 1.77 bln cubic meters), France (49.6 bln cubic feet, or 1.4 bln cubic meters), the Netherlands (35.4 bln cubic feet, or 1 bln cubic meters), and Spain (30.3 bln cubic feet, or 0.86 bln cubic meters). Those countries accounted for 60% of all deliveries from the US.

The share of supplies to Asia in total volume of US LNG exports fell to 8.4% in January from 17.6% in December 2024, according to the report. Meanwhile the share of deliveries to Europe soared to 85.5% in January, reaching an all-time time. The remaining volumes were exported to Latin American and African states.
