Kazakhstan to boost gas exports to China in 2025 — company

The additional agreement was signed as part of a bilateral business forum in Astana

ASTANA, February 12. /TASS/. QazaqGaz and PetroChina have agreed to increase gas supplies to China this year, the national company of Kazakhstan announced without specifying the volume of supplies.

"Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz JSC Sanzhar Zharkeshov and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of PetroChina International Wu Junli signed an addendum to the three-year agreement for the sale and purchase of natural gas. This step will increase gas exports to China in 2025, which confirms the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China in the energy sector," the statement said. The additional agreement was signed as part of a bilateral business forum in Astana.

In 2017, Kazakhstan began exporting gas to China under a contract providing for deliveries of up to 10 billion cubic meters per year. According to Kazakh authorities, from 2017 to 2021, gas exports to China increased fourfold (from 1.5 billion to 5.9 billion cubic meters).

In 2023, Kazakhstan announced the signing of a new contract for the export of NG to China for the period from 2023 to 2026. Details were not disclosed. Russia also intends to supply gas to China through Kazakhstan. In December last year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced the start of the process of developing a route for such a pipeline. Its capacity will be 45 billion cubic meters, of which 10 billion are intended for the development of gas supply network of Kazakhstan.
