MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. The future Russian Orbital Station (ROS) will have a service life of half a century as required for testing interplanetary crewed flight technologies, Chief Designer for Russia’s Piloted Space Systems, Energia Space Rocket Corporation Chief Designer, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Solovyov said on Tuesday.

"We are boldly designing the Russian Orbital Station, declaring that it will have a service life of 50 years," Solovyov said at a conference on space biology and aerospace medicine titled: Earth-Orbit-Deep Space.

Piloted systems in near-Earth orbit should be developed to operate as elements of a future interplanetary station, he said.

Energia Deputy Chief Designer, ROS Chief Designer Vladimir Kozhevnikov told TASS in February that Russia planned to launch the ROS first research and power module at the end of 2027 and the nodal, gateway, baseline and special-purpose modules in 2028-2030.
