BANGKOK, April 23. /TASS/. With its efforts to counteract the so-called Russian threat, the European Union is displaying a clear lack of any discernible foreign policy strategy, Kirill Logvinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations, said in an interview with a TASS correspondent on the sidelines of the 81st session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok.
Replying to a question as to whether the current EU leadership comprehends the processes underway transforming the world order, the diplomat said: "Any comprehension is completely absent, as well as any clear, future-focused Brussels’ foreign policy strategy. Actually, large-scale efforts on counteracting the so-called Russian threat vividly confirm this. And, as it continues, it becomes more difficult to discern to whose interests the EU bureaucracy is catering."
"As for ordinary Europeans, then, unfortunately, they are seriously influenced by massive propaganda that has been going on for years. And this is not just about the attitude to our country. The problem is much more extensive - they are being indoctrinated with false ideas about values, about life in all its dimensions, for the sole benefit of the EU political elite. This is a ‘forced zombification’ of sorts. That said, if one recalls history, artificially imposing any hostile attitudes to Russia on the population, facilitating the rise of revanchist attitudes, not to mention calling for ‘Eastern crusades,’ has never resulted in anything positive for Europe," the diplomat added.
From 2018 to 2024, Logvinov served as Russia’s deputy permanent representative to the EU. From September 2022 to November 2024, he was Russia’s interim permanent representative to the EU.
