Gas price trading above $620, first time in two years

According to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe, the gas reserves in underground storage facilities in Europe dropped to 49%, while the rate of withdrawal in February was almost 60% higher than in 2024

MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. The price of gas in Europe during exchange trading on Monday exceeded $620 per 1,000 cubic meters for the first time since February 7, 2023, according to data from the London ICE exchange. The growth since the beginning of the day is more than 4%.

The price of February futures on the TTF hub in the Netherlands rose to $626 per 1,000 cubic meters, or 58.645 euro per MWh (based on the current euro to dollar exchange rate, ICE prices are presented in euro per MWh).

TASS reported earlier, citing data from Gas Infrastructure Europe, that gas reserves in underground storage facilities in Europe had dropped to 49%, while the rate of withdrawal in February was almost 60% higher than last year. However, gas volumes in underground storage facilities are still the fourth highest in history for early February. Since the start of the heating season, the EU has withdrawn more than 54 bln cubic meters from underground storage facilities, which already significantly exceeds the volume pumped into them for the autumn-winter period.

The first half of the current week in Europe is expected to be relatively warm, but a serious cold snap is predicted closer to the weekend. The share of wind generation in EU electricity generation in January averaged 21%, while in the first days of February it was only around 13%.
