Russia to redirect gas to East, South — expert

According to Karin Kneissl, this trend is clearly reflected in efforts to establish a trilateral gas union of Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan

MOSCOW, November 10. /TASS/. The destination of Russian gas supplies will continue shifting from the West to the East and the South, ex-foreign minister of Austria Karin Kneissl said at the 5th International Municipal BRICS+ Forum.

Russian gas can be redirected through the pipelines of its partners in the post-Soviet space, she said. "And I think we will see more of that. Russian gas flowing East, flowing South," Kneissl noted.

"Geography, demography - the two main factors that simply cannot change. Demography is definitely more interesting in a country like India with a relatively young population than in rather old aged circles of Western Europe," the expert said.

This trend is clearly reflected in efforts to establish a trilateral gas union of Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, Kneissl added.
