Ethiopia temporarily bans export of coffee by air passengers — Russian embassy

The embassy urged to take this information into account in order to avoid unpleasant situations at the Ethiopian airport

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/. The Ethiopian authorities have temporarily banned the export of coffee from the country in any form and in any quantity. This is according to a warning to air passengers that was issued by the Russian Embassy in Addis Ababa.

"Due to the introduction of a new order by the customs authorities of Ethiopia, the export of Ethiopian coffee by air passengers in any form and in any quantity is temporarily prohibited. When planning trips, in order to avoid unpleasant situations at the Ethiopian airport, we advise you to take this information into account," the statement says published in the embassy’s Telegram channel.

Coffee is considered the main export crop for Ethiopia. According to the International Coffee Organization, Ethiopia is the leader among African countries in coffee production and ranks fifth in the world for this indicator, being overtaken only by Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia.
