Murmansk governor: First floating LNG plant will leave Murmansk for Yamal in summer

It is reported that in the coming decade, the region's portfolio of investment projects will be more than $16 billion

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. The first floating LNG plant, which is being built in the Murmansk Region for the Arctic LNG-2 project, will be shipped to the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region in summer, the Murmansk Region's Governor Andrey Chibis said on Monday.

"The first gas liquefying floating plant is expected to be shipped to the Yamal Peninsula this summer," he said.

The plant's high-tech equipment's localization is almost 90%, he added.

The region is about to finish the Lavna port's construction, he continued. "For the Murmansk Region it is a key priority. Murmansk is a backbone port for development of the Northern Sea Route, and everything related to exports via this route is important to us."

In the coming decade, the region's portfolio of investment projects will be more than 1.3 trillion rubles ($16 billion), he said in conclusion.

Russia's Novatek Company plans to have built three floating LNG plants in the Murmansk Region by 2025. The Center for Construction of Large Offshore Facilities (CCLOF) is located in the region's Belokamenka village. Novatek's CEO Leonid Mikhelson said earlier the company would commission the Arctic LNG-2 project as planned: the first stage is due to be commissioned in late 2023, the second stage - in 2024, and the third stage - in 2026.
