Russian coal production to remain at last year’s level in 2023

Russia’s coal exports slipped by 1% in 2022 to 221.2 mln tons, according to the ministry

MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. Russia’s coal production is expected to remain at last year’s level in 2023, Minister Nikolay Shulginov said addressing the State Duma (lower house) on Wednesday.

"Regarding coal we expect the current level [of production], which in 2022 returned to the high pre-pandemic level of 2019, to remain," he said.

Russia’s coal exports slipped by 1% in 2022 to 221.2 mln tons, according to the ministry. Crude exports rose by 7.6% last year to 242.2 mln tons. Electricity consumption added 1.5% to 1.124 trillion kW per hour.

Last year’s crude output went up by 2% to 535.1 mln tons, while coal production edged up by 0.3% to 443.6 mln tons. Electricity production increased by 0.7% to 1.139 trillion kW per hour.
