MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. The forecast for Russia’s annual wheat harvest in 2023 was revised downward slightly from 86 million to 85.3 million metric tons due to tough winter weather, Russian agribusiness research firm Sovecon said on Wednesday.
"Sovecon has lowered its forecast for the Russian wheat harvest in 2023 from 86 million metric tons to 85.3 million metric tons on the back of challenging winter weather conditions," the consultancy noted in a statement.
The winter wheat harvest is now estimated at 60.9 million metric tons versus the previous projection of 61.6 million metric tons, Sovecon experts noted. Estimates for the spring wheat harvest remain unchanged at 24.4 million metric tons. "The forecast was lowered amid a lack of precipitation in southern growing regions in recent months," Sovecon added.
