Russia does not face famine, FAO says

The voluntary national survey furnished by Russia in July 2020 in New York revealed that 1.6% of people face hunger in the country, while up to 6% of the population experience food insecurity from time to time

MOSCOW, October 14. /TASS/. Russia as a country is in a safe zone from the standpoint of food security and will not face famine, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation Oleg Kobyakov said at a press conference in TASS this Friday.

According to statistics furnished to FAO by the Russian government, the situation in Russia is fairly comfortable, Kobyakov said. The voluntary national survey furnished by Russia in July 2020 in New York revealed that 1.6% of people face hunger in the country, while up to 6% of the population experience food insecurity from time to time.

"These figures evidence the high degree of food security in Russia. Now, judging from the agricultural output per capita, Russia has very comfortable figures and famine does not pose a threat to Russia as a country," Kobyakov added.
