Almost all Russian airplanes are in domestic register — minister

According to Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev, the Russian aircraft fleet currently stands at 1,272 airplanes

MOSCOW, June 21. /TASS/. Almost all Russian airplanes have been transferred to the national register and reinsured inside the country, Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV Channel.

"Airplanes appear since companies are replenishing their fleet," Savelyev said. "The overwhelming majority of companies has changed over and made reinsurance in present. Firstly, I highly appreciate the Central Bank that is helping and the Russian reinsurance company," Savelyev said.

The Russian aircraft fleet currently stands at 1,272 airplanes, including 1,148 passenger aircraft, Savelyev said. Foreign airplanes remaining with Russian air carriers were not expropriated, the Minister noted.

"Our airlines continue accumulating leasing payments in rubles with the Central Bank. If an owner wants to receive [money], he converts and takes them. Sanctions at the same time prevent us from paying in currency, although companies can pay, on the one part. On the other part, they are not ready to convert money we credit at accounts. This is the case," he added.
