JTI Russia tobacco company continues operations in country so far

Earlier, the company said it admitted the option of selling its Russian business over the situation around Ukraine

MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. JTI Russia, a subsidiary of the Japanese Japan Tobacco, continues operations in the country despite statements on withdrawal from the Russian market, the company reported on Thursday.

JTI continues operations in Russia for uninterrupted supply of high-quality products to consumers, the company said.

It also confirmed that new investments and marketing activities have been suspended in the country as announced on March 10. "Given the challenging and unpredictable environment, the JT Group has continued to evaluate various options for its Russia business, including potentially transferring its ownership," JTI said.

"The Group remains committed to its 4,000 employees in Russia, including to secure their employment," the report said.

Earlier, the company said it admitted the option of selling its Russian business over the situation around Ukraine.

Earlier, Japan Tobacco suspended the work of its facility in the city of Kremenchug in the central part of Ukraine. Moreover, the company halted new investments on the Russian market. In Russia, the Japanese tobacco company has four plants, as well as around 70 offices and divisions.

JTI sells products in 130 countries around the globe. The company entered the Russian market in 1992. Its portfolio contains international cigarette brands Winston, LD, Camel, Sobranie, as well as Russian brands Kiss, Peter I, Troika, Donskoy Tabak and more.
