Situation on Russian labor market is improving, says Putin

The unemployment indicators in Russia can be lowered to the level before the coronavirus pandemic, Putin said

ZAVIDOVO, January 25. /TASS/. The unemployment rate goes down in Russia but the situation on the labor market is still challenging, Russian President Vladimir Putin says on Monday at the meeting with students of higher educational institutions.

"Our labor market situation is improving in recent months still remaining challenging from my point of view. This is because the unemployment rate increased from 4.7% to 6.6% in general but now it is about 5.9%. In other words, the unemployment rate declines," Putin says.

 The unemployment indicators in Russia can be lowered to the level before the coronavirus pandemic, President Vladimir Putin says.

"The government has the task to reach the pre-crisis level soon, so to say. Judging from trends we observe in the economy now, such task is absolutely feasible," the head of state says.

Authorities will continue working on this matter, Putin noted.

According to statistics, the unemployment rate in Russia, goes down, the President says. "Our labor market situation is improving in recent months still remaining challenging from my point of view. This is because the unemployment rate increased from 4.7% to 6.6% and now it is about 5.9%. In other words, the unemployment rate declines," Putin says.

The head of state has also raised the topic of support for young scientists. About 500 mln rubles ($6.6 mln) were allocated to support such specialists in 2020, the President said. "I have no doubts such work must be continue in future, so that we assign young specialists to [job] sites and help higher educational institutions not to lose such specialists. Therefore, we will endeavor to continue this [graduates employment] program," Putin added.
