Russian defense firm integrating AI system into Okhotnik, Narval combat modules

The defense manufacturer is also working on introducing extra functions into the combat modules to fight enemy drones, Director General Igor Afanasyev said

MINSK, May 22. /TASS/. The Elektromashina Research and Production Association (part of Uralvagonzavod Group within the state tech corporation Rostec) actively integrates artificial intelligence technology into the Okhotnik and Narval remote-controlled combat modules to better identify and inform a human operator about various military hardware, Elektromashina Director General Igor Afanasyev told TASS on Thursday.

"The Elektromashina Research and Production Association is actively engaged in integrating artificial intelligence technology into the Narval and Okhotnik combat modules, which will make it possible to identify more accurately and automatically inform an operator about various hardware," the chief executive said at the 12th MILEX international arms and military equipment show in Minsk.

The defense manufacturer is also working on introducing extra functions into the combat modules to fight enemy drones, he said.

The Okhotnik is one of the most advanced Russian-made remotely controlled combat modules. The combat module has its basic armament stabilized in two planes, which makes it possible to engage targets on the move at a distance of over 1,000 meters. The module integrates a TV-camera, a thermal imager and a laser range-finder. The Narval is the shipborne version of the Okhotnik module.
