Active work underway to deploy Oreshnik hypersonic missiles in Belarus — top brass

Chief of the Belarusian Defense Ministry’s Department for International Military Cooperation Valery Revenko did not disclose any additional details

MINSK, February 20. /TASS/. Belarus is working actively on the issue of deploying Russian-made Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile systems on its territory, Chief of the Belarusian Defense Ministry’s Department for International Military Cooperation Valery Revenko said on Thursday.

"We are working on this issue. However, unfortunately, I can’t tell you details right now. The work proceeds very actively. If the heads of state have decided so, the decision will be implemented," the Belarusian defense official told reporters.

Moscow and Minsk signed an interstate agreement on security guarantees of the Russia-Belarus Union State, following a meeting of its Supreme State Council on December 6, 2024. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said after the meeting that he had requested Russian leader Vladimir Putin to deploy Oreshnik hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missiles in the republic. Putin said that Oreshnik missile systems could be deployed in Belarus in the second half of 2025.

In late January, Belarusian President Lukashenko announced that the Russian Oreshnik hypersonic missile system would be deployed in the country "any day now." He further said that it could be deployed on the republic’s territory closer to the western Russian city of Smolensk.
