MELITOPOL, February 12. /TASS/. Ukraine’s military has targeted a parking lot in the city of Energodar, 300 meters away from the reactor of the Zaporizhia nuclear power station with UAVs, said Zaporozhye region head Yevgeny Balitsky.
"Kiev terrorists attacked a parking lot in the city of Energodar and the area close to the nuclear power plant with UAVs. The distance to the first reactor was no more than 300 meters," he wrote in his telegram channel.
The governor urged Energodar residents to remain calm and not go out until the situation stabilizes. "Air defense is active," Balitsky added.
The Zaporozhye nuclear power station, located in Energodar, is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. It runs six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW.
In February 2022, Russian forces seized control over it. Since then, the Ukrainian army has periodically shelled both Energodar’s residential areas and the territory of the station with drones, heavy artillery, and multiple rocket launchers. All six units are in a state of a cold shutdown and do not generate electricity.
Since September 2022, an IAEA mission has been present at the station, with its composition changing through regular rotations.
