Top Russian security official arrives in Kazakhstan to meet with country’s leadership

Sergey Shoigu is expected to be received by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev

ASTANA, February 11. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has arrived in Astana to discuss Russia-Kazakhstan bilateral relations, security issues, and the situation in Syria, the organization’s press office reported on Tuesday.

This is Shoigu’s first foreign trip in 2025, the press office said.

During the working visit, the Russian top security official will take part in bilateral consultations of Russia and Kazakhstan’s security councils, as well as hold a meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Gizat Nurdauletov. The parties are to discuss bilateral relations in various spheres, current challenges and threats to regional and global security, the situation in Central Asia, and developments in both Syria and Afghanistan," the Russian Security Council noted.

Shoigu is expected to be received by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Shoigu last visited Kazakhstan in late November 2024.
