ISLAMABAD, February 10. /TASS/. Russia proposes creating a working group to monitor current and future maritime security threats and drafting practical recommendations on how to mitigate them, a Russian navy official said during the AMAN international dialogue forum in Karachi, Pakistan.
"In order to build a system of international maritime security, we consider it necessary to create a comprehensive working group to monitor current and future threats and develop practical recommendations on how to neutralize them," Commander of the Pacific Fleet’s Primorye Flotilla of All-Arms Forces Rear Adm. Alexey Sysuyev said.
"We believe that the working group’s number one goal should be to create an integrated information-sharing system. During the next phase, a permanent working group will be established to collect incoming data and make decisions on whether international patrols need to be organized in some of the most turbulent waters of the World Ocean," he continued. "During the final phase, the working group will be vested with the power to authorize the use of international forces in crisis-hit areas, in accordance with all international documents and norms."
The AMAN dialogue forum is taking place in Pakistan on February 9 and 10. It brings together navy commanders, coast guards and other senior officers, as well as experts from all over the world to discuss problems of regional maritime security and forge joint strategies for countering emerging maritime security threats.
