Russia reserves right to initiate UNSC emergency meeting on POWs — diplomat

Russia has turned to the UN, the OSCE, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international organizations, and also to the leadership of Germany, France and Turkey, Maria Zakharova informed

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Moscow reserves the right to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council shortly on the situation with Russian prisoners of war (POWs), Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

Russia has turned to the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other international organizations, and also to the leadership of Germany, France and Turkey, the spokeswoman said.

"All those countries that actively worked in the Ukrainian humanitarian area [in order] to make the Ukrainian authorities immediately provide access for international representatives of the Red Cross to Russian prisoners of war with the aim of establishing the conditions of their custody and carrying out profound medical examination with the subsequent transfer of reporting documents to the Russian side and international organizations," the spokeswoman said.

"The Russian side reserves the right to initiate shortly the convocation of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on this issue with a detailed report by representatives of Ukraine and the leadership of the International Committee of the Red Cross on the conditions of the custody and the health condition of Russian servicemen, if the above-mentioned measures are not taken," the diplomat pointed out.
