TEHRAN, September 25. /TASS/. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, briefed his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on progress in talks between Tehran and Muscat regarding the Strait of Hormuz, as well as on the ongoing exchange of information with the US.

"The foreign minister briefed his Russian counterpart on the current status of negotiations and agreements between Iran and Oman regarding ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as on the continued efforts by intermediaries to convey the terms and necessary parameters for a return to the diplomatic process with the US," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a news release.

During the meeting with Lavrov, Araghchi emphasized that Iran has already demonstrated serious approach in the diplomatic arena but also intends to firmly defend its interests and will not allow the US to use the Strait of Hormuz to pose threats to national security.
