LONDON, February 26. /TASS/. The United Kingdom is ready to support the EU in introducing a complete ban on maritime services for Russian oil shipments, Politico reported, citing Esther Blythe, deputy director for Russia and Belarus sanctions at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
"We would support moving to a full maritime services ban on Russian crude oil and refined oil products, working with international partners. We continue to discuss this with Europeans," she said, speaking at a session of the House of Commons Business and Trade Sub-Committee on Economic Security, Arms and Export Controls.
Politico also cites Trade Minister Chris Bryant, who took part in the session. When asked whether Britain was going to act with the support of the EU despite US reluctance, he replied: "That is right. That is correct."
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the EU intends to abandon the price cap on Russian oil in its 20th sanctions package, replacing it with a complete ban on providing maritime services for Russian oil shipments. The ban is expected to include the provision of financial, legal, insurance, and other services to any shippers of Russian oil, regardless of price. However, according to a diplomatic source in Brussels, the EU has not received support from the US or the G7 regarding this move.
