IAEA team at Zaporozhye nuke plant heard gunfire — agency’s chief

Rafael Grossi stressed that "there are too many drones flying near nuclear sites"

BERLIN, May 22. /TASS/. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors stationed at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) heard gunfire on Wednesday, the agency’s Director General Rafael Grossi said in a statement published on the IAEA website.

According to him, a group of experts heard gunfire at the time of a reported drone attack on the ZNPP training center.

"These reported drone incidents are very concerning, as they could pose a direct threat to nuclear safety and security. To put it simply: there are too many drones flying near nuclear sites, not just the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. It should stop immediately," Director General Grossi said.

Earlier reports said that on Wednesday, the Ukrainian armed forces had carried out several attacks on the ZNPP training center, which hosts the world's only full-scale reactor hall simulator.
