Taliban government to send Afghani ambassador to Russia soon

On April 17, Russia’s Supreme Court upheld an appeal from the Prosecutor-General to suspend the ban on the Taliban movement inside Russia

DOHA, April 23. /TASS/. The Afghan government, formed by the Taliban movement, will soon send its ambassador to Russia, said Taliban Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad following a meeting between the head of the ministry, Amir Khan Muttaqi, and Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov.

"The foreign minister expressed his appreciation for Russia's recent move to remove the Taliban movement… from the list of organizations banned in Russia," the foreign ministry spokesman wrote on social media network X.

Muttaqi also thanked Kabulov for the opportunity to send an ambassador from the Taliban government and promised that this would be done soon, Zia Ahmad added.

On April 17, Russia’s Supreme Court upheld an appeal from the Prosecutor-General to suspend the ban on the Taliban movement inside Russia. The decision took effect immediately. The Russian Foreign Ministry said the ruling would have no bearing on Moscow’s compliance with its international obligations, including UN Security Council sanctions.

At the end of December last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law establishing the possibility of temporarily suspending the ban on activities of organizations included in the unified list of terrorist groups.
