US’ draft minerals deal unconstitutional, Zelensky's office says

Sergey Leshchenko added that Kiev should take into account that US President Donald Trump, whose administration has put forward the agreement, "is there for a long time"

MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. A new draft minerals agreement with the United States contradicts Ukraine’s constitution and its terms of integration into the European Union, but modifications could make it acceptable, Sergey Leshchenko, advisor to Vladimir Zelensky's office, said on the Rada TV channel.

"The agreement may seem unacceptable to us. The government is working on it, the Justice Ministry is working on it. But what contradicts the constitution, contradicts European integration, all this can be turned into a viable project for Ukraine," he said.

Leshchenko added that Kiev should take into account that US President Donald Trump, whose administration has put forward the agreement, "is there for a long time."

Earlier, Zelensky said that the United States had handed over to Ukraine a new draft agreement on minerals, which sets out in detail the conditions for the creation of this investment fund. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the United States and Kiev could sign an agreement on economic cooperation, including on minerals, as early as this week. However, Kiev said that it is still working on its position on the agreement. After that, Trump indicated that if Zelensky tried to walk away from the deal, he would have big problems.
