UNITED NATIONS, March 25. /TASS/. The United Nations welcomes the agreements on safe navigation in the Black Sea reached by Russia and the US, Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN secretary general, said at a briefing.
"We have seen the two announcements, which are welcome," he pointed out in response to a question.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Donald Trump of the United States earlier launched diplomatic dialogue to restore bilateral relations and resolve the Ukraine conflict. As part of the process, the Saudi capital of Riyadh hosted Russia-US expert consultations, which lasted over 12 hours, focusing on the Black Sea Initiative.
The Kremlin and the White House said in statements that Russia and the US would continue working towards achieving a durable and lasting peace. In particular, the parties agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea. They also agreed to develop measures for implementing agreements to ban strikes against energy facilities in Russia and Ukraine for a period of 30 days starting on March 18. The agreements may be extended, while one of the parties has the right to withdraw if the other violates the ban.
