Hamas never rejected talks with Israel — spokesman

Taher al-Nunu called on the international community to "take urgent steps" to end the conflict, calling for pressure on Israel to "immediately stop" the bombardment in the Gaza Strip and "enter the second phase of talks"

PARIS, March 19. /TASS/. The radical Palestinian Hamas movement has not ruled out holding talks with Israel on a settlement in the Gaza Strip but insists on the implementation of the current agreement between the sides, Hamas official Taher al-Nunu told AFP.

"Hamas has not closed the door on negotiations but we insist there is no need for new agreements. We already have a deal signed by all parties to the conflict," the spokesman said.

He called on the international community to "take urgent steps" to end the conflict, calling for pressure on Israel to "immediately stop" the bombardment in the Gaza Strip and "enter the second phase of talks."

On March 18, the Israeli army carried out large-scale attacks on the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the move was due to Hamas' rejection of proposals made during talks with mediators and US special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Radicals held Israel and the US responsible for the resumption of hostilities. Hamas said it had honored the ceasefire agreement until the last minute. Following the breakdown of the truce in the enclave, Yemen's Ansar Allah movement announced that it would resume strikes against Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red Sea.
