WASHINGTON, March 16. /TASS/. The Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty media corporation (RFE/RL, recognized as a foreign agent media outlet in Russia and included in the register of undesirable organizations) confirmed the receipt of a document about the termination of funding from the US government.
In a statement published on the media corporation's website its President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Capus said cancelling the grant agreement would be "a massive gift to America’s enemies."
On March 14, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order significantly reducing the scope of activities of the US government Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and a number of other government structures. USAGM oversees the RFE/RL media corporation and the Voice of America radio station (recognized as a foreign agent media outlet in Russia). Soon, the USAGM letter became known. The document talks about the termination of the grant approved by the US Congress that finances RFE/RL. Meanwhile, the Committee to Protect Journalists called on the leaders of the US Congress to protect USAGM from the effect of Trump's order.
In February, Elon Musk, who heads the Office of Government Efficiency, called on the US authorities to stop funding the RFE/RL media corporation and the Voice of America radio station.
