WASHINGTON, March 12. /TASS/. The US administration will resume providing security assistance to Ukraine under the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) mechanism, which allows the US president to supply weapons to a foreign partner by decree without congressional approval in case of an emergency, national security adviser Mike Waltz said.
According to a joint US-Ukraine statement released earlier after the Jeddah talks, Washington will immediately resume providing intelligence and security assistance to Kiev.
"In terms of the security assistance, it's the current Presidential Drawdown Authority [package]," Waltz said when asked by reporters what kind of assistance would be resumed to Ukraine. "I'll refer [you] to the Defense Department on <…> what munitions were where in the process, but it's the current PDA that will proceed to the Ukrainians," he said after talks with the Ukrainian delegation, indicating that he was referring to aid packages that had been announced as far back as the previous Joe Biden administration.
US President Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine a few days after a dispute with Vladimir Zelensky at the White House on February 28. The decision took effect on the morning of March 4. It applies to all US military equipment not currently in Ukraine, including weapons transported by air and sea or awaiting further shipment in transit zones in Poland.
