LONDON, March 10. /TASS/. All 37 crew members aboard the two ships that collided in the North Sea have now been rescued, Sky News reported, citing Graham Stewart, a lawmaker representing an area in Yorkshire.
According to him, only one of them required hospitalization.
"I've now spoken with the transport secretary and I understand that only one person is in hospital," he said. "The other 36 mariners across both crews are safe and accounted for."
The incident happened at 9:48 a.m. off the northeastern coast of England. According to preliminary reports, the container ship Solong, sailing under the Portuguese flag, collided with the US-flagged tanker Stena Immaculate, which was anchored at the time. The collision ripped apart a cargo tank on the tanker, causing multiple explosions and a release of jet fuel into the sea. Both vessels caught fire, which is still on.
