MADRID, March 10. /TASS/. Spain’s left-wing Podemos (We Can) party will demand the country withdraw from NATO, the party’s spokesman Pablo Fernandez said.

"We are absolutely against any increase in military spending," he wrote on his X page. "That is why we plan to register an initiative to have any increase in defense spending be voted at the Congress (lower house of parliament - TASS). We will also request Spain’s withdrawal from NATO."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said earlier that the government will seek to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP ahead of the planned time, i.e. in 2029. Spain’s current defense spending slightly exceeds 1.3% of GDP. A total of 17.5 billion euro were allocated for these purposes in 2024.
