SCO chief says summit in China to be held in second half of 2025

At the upcoming summit heads of member states are expected to discuss relevant international and regional issues, efforts to ensure food, energy and environmental security, as well as questions related to the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism

NEW DELHI, February 21. /TASS/. The meeting of the Council of heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members in China will take place in the second half of the year, most probably in early fall, SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev said in an interview with TASS.

"The time and place of the 25th meeting of the Council of heads of SCO member states in the People’s Republic of China are being approved. The summit will take place in the second half of 2025, most probably in early fall. It may safely be said that the agenda of the leaders’ meeting will be rich," he said. The meeting of the Council of heads of SCO governments will be held in Q4 2025, Yermekbayev added.

At the upcoming summit heads of member states are expected to discuss relevant international and regional issues, efforts to ensure food, energy and environmental security, as well as questions related to the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, as well as other types of challenges and threats, he said.

In addition to the summit the Chinese side plans to hold more than 40 sessions and meetings of permanent SCO mechanisms, the SCO chief noted.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai. Initially, it included six countries - Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, joined by India and Pakistan in 2017 and Iran in 2023. It was decided that Belarus would complete the process of joining the organization at a summit in Astana held last July.
