Another attempt by Trump to put pressure on Tehran will fail — top Iranian diplomat

According to Abbas Araghchi, "if the main issue is about preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons, then it’s not a problem at all"

DUBAI, February 5. /TASS/. Another attempt by US President Donald Trump to apply maximum pressure on Tehran will fail just like the previous one did during his first presidential term, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

"Maximum pressure means a bad experience, and a repeated attempt will only lead to another failure," he told the SNN TV channel, commenting on Trump’s signing of a document restoring maximum pressure on Tehran.

According to Araghchi, "if the main issue is about preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons, then it’s not a problem at all." "Iran’s position is perfectly clear. Tehran is committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and there is also the Supreme Leader’s religious decree (fatwah)[which bans nuclear arms production], which defines it all," the top Iranian diplomat stressed.

Earlier, Trump signed a memorandum restoring maximum pressure on Iran. In particular, the document calls for intensifying Washington’s efforts aimed at reducing Iranian oil exports. However, Trump did not rule out a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
