BEIJING, December 24. /TASS/. China adheres to non-intervention policy with regard to South Korea, believing that its people will independently cope with domestic political difficulties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone conversation with his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul.
"China has noted the recent changes in South Korea’s domestic situation. China adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and believes that the South Korean people have the wisdom and ability to deal with domestic issues appropriately," the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Wang as saying.
He also expressed Beijing’s readiness to cooperate with Seoul "to jointly maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains."
On December 14, South Korea’s parliament voted to impeach South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol over his decision to declare martial law, which was seen as a violation of the country’s constitution. The Constitutional Court now has to decide whether to uphold the impeachment motion or reinstate the president. Yoon has been suspended from office until the verdict is announced. In addition, South Korea’s police, anti-corruption agency, and prosecutors have launched investigations into the president based on suspicion of insurrection and abuse of power.
