At least 7 people injured in Israeli shelling of Syria’s Tartus province — report

One residential building burned down and some infrastructure was crippled

TUNIS, December 17. /TASS/. At least seven people, all of them civilians, suffered injuries in Israeli airstrikes on military sites in the Syrian province of Tartus, the Syrian newspaper Al Watan reported.

"Seven civilians were taken to a hospital with shrapnel wounds and traumas," the newspaper said, citing the director of the medical institution.

Furthermore, according to Al Watan, the Israeli bombing raid caused serious damage to residential neighborhoods in Tartus. For example, one residential building burned down and some infrastructure was crippled.

Al Manar television reported overnight into December 16 that the Israeli Air Force struck military installations in the provinces of Tartus, Hama and Homs. Earlier on Monday, a TASS source in the province said Israel attacked Syrian air defense systems in Tartus.

On December 8, Israel took control of the Syrian side of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, encountering no resistance. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the 1974 separation of forces agreement with Syria is no longer valid because Syrian troops left the area after the change of power in Damascus.

The Israeli Air Force continues to strike military sites in Syria. On December 10, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that his country's navy had effectively destroyed the Syrian navy. On December 12, the Israel Defense Forces said its airstrikes obliterated more than 90% of Syria’s known stockpiles of surface-to-air missiles.
