Slovak PM says makes commitment to visit Moscow for Victory Day festivities in 2025

"Without the Soviet Union, fascism could have never been defeated and WWII would have never been won," Robert Fico stressed

BUENOS AIRES, December 12. /TASS/. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has made a commitment to attend the Victory Parade on Moscow’s Red Square next May.

"Slovakia recognizes this (role of the Soviet Union in the victory over fascism - TASS), and I have made this commitment (to visit Moscow for Victory Day festivities on May 9, 2025 - TASS) as this will mark the 80th anniversary [of the liberation of Czechoslovakia]," the Slovak prime minister told the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo in an interview. "Without the Soviet Union, fascism could have never been defeated and WWII would have never been won," he said with confidence.

In November, Fico formally accepted an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Moscow for festivities marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Slovak head of government said he had agreed to travel to the Russian capital for the May 9 celebrations together with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Fico stressed that he is not afraid of criticism from other European leaders over his decision to attend the Victory Parade in Moscow.
