RABAT, December 11. /TASS/. The transitional government of Syria plans to speed up the process of deploying security patrols throughout the country, Al Jazeera reported.
"We will accelerate the deployment of security patrols across Syria," a source in the political department of the Syrian opposition, which took control of Damascus and many other cities in the country last week, told the television channel.
"The priority is to control security and we are intensifying security operations to protect government institutions," he said.
According to the source, the opposition's goal is to "establish a new state based on institutions and law."
Syria’s armed opposition units started a large-scale offensive on government troops at the end of November. On December 8, they entered Damascus while government troops withdrew from the city. Bashar Assad resigned as president and fled the country. A Kremlin source told TASS that Assad and his family are in Moscow and have been granted asylum in Russia out of humanitarian reasons.
Mohammed Bashir announced on December 10 that he will lead a transitional cabinet in Syria. He had previously headed the opposition’s cabinet in Idlib since January 2024.
