RABAT, December 10. /TASS/. The mandate of Syria’s interim government, which Mohammed al-Bashir is tasked with forming, will last three months, a source within the political administration of the Syrian opposition, which established control over Damascus and numerous other cities, told Al Jazeera.
"Al-Bashir’s government will operate during the transitional period, which will span three months," the source told the TV channel.
The source outlined the priorities for the interim administration, including "ensuring security, providing essential services, and facilitating a gradual handover [of power]."
The interim government, the source announced, will "lay the groundwork for the future operations of the regular government." He added, "Consultations on the formation of the government are ongoing," noting that "ministers from the Salvation Government will continue their roles within the interim government."
Previously, al-Bashir served as the head of the Syrian Salvation Government, based in Idlib.
On November 27, Syria’s armed opposition launched a significant offensive against government forces in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. By the evening of December 7, President Bashar Assad’s opponents had captured several key cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, and Homs. On December 8, opposition forces entered the Syrian capital, Damascus, following the withdrawal of the army.
Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali announced his readiness to oversee a peaceful transition of power in the republic. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Assad had stepped down and left the country, issuing directives for the peaceful transfer of authority.
