NEW DELHI, November 28. /TASS/. At least six people have been killed, and 17 others are reported missing due to the heavy rains and flooding in Sri Lanka.
The number of those affected has now reached 330,894, according to the Disaster Management Center of the island nation.
More than 1,500 homes have been completely or partially destroyed. Landslides in several regions have led to the suspension of train services. Water levels in local rivers remain high. Military personnel have evacuated 16,000 residents from flooded areas to safe zones.
Meteorologists have warned that adverse weather conditions will persist on Thursday due to the impending cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal, heading towards Sri Lanka's eastern coast. The Northern Province is expected to receive 150 mm of rainfall, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 m/s.
