MADRID, November 11. /TASS/. Once Donald Trump officially takes office as US President, Ukraine will likely be the first item on the chopping block, as he will look to make good on his promise to end the war by imposing a deal on Kiev, said Timothy Garton Ash, professor of European Studies at the University of Oxford.
The odds of Trump increasing support for Ukraine are very low - 5-10%. "There is, however, a 90% to 95% chance that he will do what he has repeatedly stated and try and put an end to the war by imposing a deal on Ukraine," the British expert wrote in an opinion piece for Spanish newspaper El Pais. He also opined that Kiev will likely be "the first victim of Donald Trump’s second term as US president."
According to Ash, many in Europe realize that it should shoulder more responsibility for its own defense. The historian also noted that the continent is hot and cold about Trump.
In the November 5 presidential election, Trump defeated Democratic Kamala Harris. Republicans also managed to clinch Senate control and they may win a House majority. Trump will be inaugurated as the United States’ 47th president on January 20, 2025.
