Humanitarian financial assistance for Ukraine contracted by almost 1.5 times in 2023. According to TASS calculations, $102.2 bln was allocated to Kiev for such purposes in 2022, while the figure dropped to $68.6 bln in 2023. The IMF, the World Bank and the United States were the largest providers of funds for Ukraine’s financial and humanitarian needs. The US was also Ukraine’s biggest donor in 2023, when it provided a total of $44.6 bln. Japan came in as the second-largest donor, boosting its financial assistance from $1.4 bln to $10.9 bln.
The overall volume of military assistance underwent a less significant decline, falling from $48.5 bln in 2022 to $41.4 bln in 2023. The latter figure was equivalent to 77% of Russia’s 2023 defense budget, while the 2022 military aid figure was equal to 95% of Russia’s defense outlays.
Altogether, in 2023 Ukraine received over $110 bln in aid, more than half of which was earmarked for meeting the country’s financial and humanitarian needs. See TASS infographics for more information about the countries and organizations that have provided Ukraine with financial support.
