Iran rejects G7 accusations of giving Russia drones for use in Ukraine

On February 17, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the foreign ministers of the seven countries called on Iran to "stop assisting the Russian military"

DUBAI, February 19. /TASS/. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has rejected a statement by G7 countries accusing the Islamic republic of transferring drones to Russia for use in the special military operation in Ukraine.

"We have repeatedly assured that we did not transfer drones to Russia for use in the conflict. Unlike Iran, those who make accusations, including the US, have been benefiting from the continuation of the war in Ukraine. Those who accuse Iran, without realizing it, are going against the Ukrainian people. We wholly reject the accusations contained in the G7 statement," the Tasnim news agency quoted him as saying.

On February 17, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the foreign ministers of the seven countries called on Iran to "stop assisting the Russian military." They also demanded that all countries prevent the supply of components for Iran's drone production programs, which are "intended to support Russia’s war effort."

Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly rejected accusations of the supply of Iranian drones to Russia for use in Ukraine. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called these reports fake and stressed that the Russian army uses domestic aircraft.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on January 17 that Tehran had never supplied Moscow with drones and missiles for use in Ukraine. In 2022, he noted that the republic supplied drones to Russia, but in small quantities and a few months before the start of the military operation. The United States and the EU, in turn, began imposing sanctions against Iran for allegedly sending drones to Moscow after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine.
