Opposition supporters in Belgrade begin march towards city police department building

The procession marks the end of the opposition rally near the Republican electoral commission

BELGRADE, December 25. /TASS/. Over 1,500 supporters of the "Serbia against violence" opposition coalition blocked car traffic in downtown Belgrade and headed towards the city police department building. According to a TASS reporter at the scene, the police cordoned off all streets on the procession’s route and suspended public transport service.

The procession marks the end of the opposition rally near the Republican electoral commission. Under the call of lawmaker Srdan Milivojevic, the protesters intend to "learn the fate" of opposition supporters, detained previously during the riots at the Belgrade city administration building.

On December 24, Serbian opposition bloc "Serbia against violence" attempted to assault the Belgrade city administration building. The rioters used flagpoles to dismantle the door, and shattered the windows, throwing beer cans and stones inside. They also destroyed the surveillance cameras. The police dispersed the rioters by midnight.

Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic warned that all opposition protests and provocative statements will yield no results, noting that "the power can change only via elections."

According to Vucic, "there will be no forceful regime change, no matter what the opposition does." The opposition claims their disagreement with the outcome of the Belgrade city parliament election, where the coalition, led by the ruling party, won previously.
